AIDS Emergency Fund

AIDS Emergency Fund (AEF) has provided over $20,000,000 in emergency financial assistance to people facing the challenges of debilitating HIV and AIDS. Each year approximately 3,000 low-income San Franciscans get help from AEF – enabling them to maintain housing and utility services, make medical co-payments, and meet other critical expenses that might otherwise tip the scales against these already over-burdened men and women.

Breast Cancer Emergency Fund

After several years of research and input from the community, AIDS Emergency Fund (AEF) launched a new initiative: The Breast Cancer Emergency Fund (BCEF). Modeled on the successful work of AEF in providing direct financial assistance to low-income San Franciscan fighting HIV and AIDS, the new breast cancer initiative honors the compassionate commitment of the caregivers of the women’s community who came to the aid of many gay men in the early years of the AIDS pandemic.

EARN

EARN (Earned Assets Resource Network) a nationally recognized, local organization focuses on building the assets of lower income individuals by creating financial stability for acquiring a first home, business or funds for a higher education.

Genius.

100% of individual donations are matched to the savings of someone in need. And from EARN's website..."right now, because EARN has received a million-dollar challenge grant from the federal government, every dollar donated to EARN will be matched twice: once by the federal government and once by an EARN Saver who is putting money aside every month to make their dreams come true."

Double genius.

EARN also accepts in-kind gift donations. Learn more about this thoughtful organization and the success of their programs.

About Edible Schoolyard
The mission of the Edible Schoolyard at Martin Luther King Junior Middle School in Berkeley is to create and sustain an organic garden and landscape that is wholly integrated into the school’s curriculum and lunch program. It involves the students in all aspects of farming the garden-along with preparing, serving and eating the food-as a means of awakening their senses and encouraging awareness and appreciation of the transformational values of nourishment, community, and stewardship of the land.

The program is integrated into the middle school’s daily life. The organic garden is flourishing, plants feed and outgrow the adolescents who nurtured them, and the kitchen is filled with delicious smells, music, and enthusiastic young chefs.
